Our Work

SNIP PROGRAM

The Spay and Neuter incentive program is a collaborative effort that combines Dog Control, the Government Vets, and PAAWS Animal Shelter to do Community Awareness events we call SNIP. This program provides information on the general health of animals and the health benefits of Spay and Neuter. We are working within the communities to help control the number of stray and injured dogs and cats. SPAY AND NEUTER is the most effective way to control the overpopulation of animals on the island.

HOTEL CAT PROGRAM

Our hotel program runs island wide, and by providing TNR (Trap, Neuter/Spay, Return-Release) at each hotel, we help control the overpopulation of community cats that may be nearby hotels, or specifically on their premises. We humanely trap, and as part of their surgery we clip the ear as a means of identification of having been spayed/neutered and then release. This controls the overpopulation of island cats, and by clipping the ear we do not re-trap cats.

FUNDRAISERS AND EVENTS

We hold various fundraising events during the year so we can continue to raise awareness of our services and to provide much need money to continue our work. As a non-profit organisation, we rely on donations and fundraising to provide all the necessary money for surgical supplies and Spay and Neuter surgeries. We thank our many generous island businesses for their continued generosity and support of donated prizes and gift certificates.

EDUCATION

We began our School Program this year (2024) where we provide on-site educational visits with an aim to reduce the fear of animals in the children, provide guidance on compassion for animals of all kinds, and a focus on  pet care, including nutritional needs and grooming for anyone who has or wants a family pet. We believe that teaching respect and empathy for animals makes for a healthier more compassionate island for everyone, humans and animals, to live on and enjoy.

ASSISTANCE

When working in our communities we often are met with obstacles regarding logistics on how to get the animals ready for or to surgeries. We have a network of resources that we can provide for anyone in need. This may be the required flea and tick control medication needed before the surgery,  transportation to and from surgery, or carriers to safely get animals to The Ark. We can also provide a loan of collars or leashes if they are needed. We try to help overcome whatever obstacles prevent people from getting their pets Spay or Neutered.

For assistance please contact us on (268) 736-2287
